Douro valley in fallDouro valley in fallThe Douro valley is located in the North of Portugal, extending from the city of Porto to the eastern border, where the Port wine production activities and the unique scenery sculpted by the Douro river.

Did you know the Douro region is recognized by UNESCO as “World Heritage”?

Douro is the oldest wine region in the world. The weather is usually dry, with cold winters and extremely hot summers, bringing unique features to these soils, which are beneficial to the longevity of the vineyards and bring more concentrated musts in sugar and colour.

Douro landscapeDouro landscapePeso da Régua and Pinhão, the two most important wine-growing centers. The city of Lamego should be mentioned as well. It has Renaissance and Baroque buildings, a cathedral and a church where you can walk up through zigzag stairs.

Next to the river, nearby Spain straches the International Douro Natural Park, with olive and orange fields, river beaches and a lot of animal life.

Along the river you can cycle easily because it is flat and you can not be disappointed in that beautiful landscape either but for better view you can climb up to the hills, worth it as well.
